A Review on The Final Days ~ by Alex Chance

Karen Wiley is a recently divorced psychologist and mother to a young eleven-year-old daughter. Just as Karen thought that she was going to start a new life, free from her ex-husband Dave, the letters started to arrive. “O God help me he’s going to hurt me if you don’t do what he says”. Karen thought it to be part of a sick minded prank and was urged by the police to ignore the letters until her daughter becomes involved and Karen decides to take matters into her own hands.
Jon Peterson, by all appearances, is an ordinary man but beneath the skin lies the whispers and torment that comes with being a schizophrenic. The voices guide Jon, he is nothing more than the vehicle for their bidding, and the voices have guided him to Karen Wiley. “Daddy says go to the church of the final days.” Karen will surely be the muse that will release him from the shackles of his past and right the wrongs which have been done against him.
The Final Days is a thriller/mystery/suspense novel that will keep your toes curled from start to finish. If you enjoy CSI or other crime related series and novels then I guarantee that you will enjoy this novel. This is the first Alex Chance book I have read and was not disappointed. You will get lost in his words and feel the fear creeping up on you as you delve deeper into the mind of Jon Peterson and his bidding.
If you are one of those readers that try to solve the mystery before it is revealed, then I urge you to keep your wits about you because there are numerous unexpected twists that will leave you awestruck.
What people fear the most is fear itself but the ability to enjoy a thriller novel lies in the reader’s ability to distance themselves from the fear created in the story: the feeling of invincibility. What makes the fear brought about by Alex Chance’s writing so real and truthfully terrifying is that sheer bad luck brought evil into Karen’s life and the same could happen to anyone.
The novel is a real nail biter and truly kept me holding my breath to the very end. Alex Chance heeds a word of caution to the evil that lurks around us daily and, for his ability to captivate and frighten me, I award his novel with five stars. If you are not a person that is easily scared do not be put off – the story is still excellent and will keep you guessing all the way through.
